Maranta are closely related to Calathea as part of the 'Prayer Plant' family, named because their leaves close upwards overnight and lay back down flat in the day.
This variegated version has lovely cream splashes speckled over its green leaves - which you will see in the evenings when they stand upright and this plant goes in to its 'prayer' pose. Also known as 'Rabbit's Foot' Maranta.
Some plants may have larger patches of variegation - others may not.
If you are interested in getting started with Maranta and Calathea then this plant is a great place to start, fairly forgiving and fast growing (& easy to propagate!) you could end up with a large, full plant in no time.
One of our pet friendly options for those of you with furry friends who like to nibble on your plants!
Care:
Light: Bright, indirect light will encourage the best growth. Be careful of direct light as it can burn their delicate leaves.
Water: Keep soil moist but do not let it sit in water, it is recommended that you use rain or filtered water if you have hard tap water to avoid crispy edges.
Food: Feed with a weak solution once or twice a month during the growing season.
Humidity: These plants need high humidity to keep the leaves from crisping and to promote growth. Use the pebble tray method or mist but ideally place close by to a humidifier.
Quick Tip: Avoid placing in drafts.
