The Calathea Makoyana 'Peacock Plant' (also known as 'Cathedral Windows') is known for its striking leaf patterns which mimic the pattern of peacock feathers.
Calathea are closely related to Maranta as part of the 'Prayer Plant' family, named because the leaves close upwards overnight and lay back down flat in the day.
Once you get started with Calathea, you're going to be hooked!
One of our pet friendly options for those of you with furry friends who like to nibble on your plants.
Care:
Light: Bright, indirect light will encourage the best growth. Be careful of direct light as it can burn their delicate leaves.
Water: Keep soil moist but do not let it sit in water, it is recommended that you use rain or filtered water if you have hard tap water to avoid crispy edges.
Food: Feed with a weak solution once or twice a month during the growing season.
Humidity: These plants need high humidity to keep the leaves from crisping and to promote growth. Use the pebble tray method or mist but ideally place close by to a humidifier.
Quick Tip: Avoid placing in drafts.
